The Practice

Beau Thomas is a Bay Area artist and educator working across sculpture, painting, photography and public art. Shells, found wood, steel and reclaimed materials become structures and surfaces that explore the relationship between human activity and the natural world.
In Deepwater and Apollo, presented in his 2021 Mills College MFA exhibition, marine forms and accumulated materials extend painting into physical space. His murals and painted utility boxes bring flowing color and recognizable imagery into everyday civic settings.
Across museum installations, studio experiments and public projects, his practice connects close attention to materials with the experience of place.
